Two Coaches Not Returning For Red Sox
(Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox announced Monday that the contracts of hitting coach Ron Jackson and pitching coach Dave Wallace will not be renewed for the 2007 season.
Vice President Theo Epstein and manager Terry Francona made the announcement after completing individual meetings with members of the Red Sox coaching staff.
Jackson has spent 18 years as a major league and minor league hitting coach, and was in his fourth year as the Red Sox hitting coach. He was appointed to the position prior to the 2003 season. In each of his first three years with the club, the Sox led the majors in runs, team batting, doubles, total bases and on-base percentage.
This year, the team finished 12th in team batting with a .269 average. They were seventh in on-base percentage.
Wallace joined Boston in June 2003, serving most of the season as the interim pitching coach. He assumed the position full-time the following season.
Neither Jackson nor Wallace is expected to remain with the Red Sox organization.
